This was a complete hunting camp security system installation performed for a long time customer at his hunting camp in South Louisiana. We went all-out on this job, installing a security system, complete perimeter surveillance, indoor and outdoor lighting, and remote access to thermostat, locks, and all lighting controls. We included some creative control functions specific to our customer’s need which are outlined toward the end of the post.
We started with a brand new home security system from 2GIG. All doors and windows were secured with intrusion detection and glass-break monitoring. The burglar panel also serves as a convenient one-touch control system for the temperature and lighting inside the camp.
The security system is programmed to notify authorities in the event of a break-in, and will also send an alert directly to the property owner’s phone.
We secured the perimeter of the camp with a state-of-the art surveillance system. The cameras we used are discrete and don’t take away from the beauty of this newly-built residence. They’re also all-weather and marine-rated, as saltwater resistance is a priority for any equipment installed in this setting.
The cameras can be monitored in real time and recorded footage can be played back from the customer’s mobile phone.
Indoor and Outdoor Lighting
We installed both attractive indoor lighting and functional, motion-sensing outdoor lighting. The outdoor lighting makes spending time outdoors at night comfortable and convenient. These outdoor lights will also alert the property owner of any encroachment by a person or by a dangerous larger animal like an alligator (yes, they hang out near this camp).
Both sets of lighting are fully programmable and can be turned on or off or dimmed from our customer’s smartphone.
Not only does our customer have the ability to monitor his surveillance cameras, he can control every aspect of this integrated setup from his mobile device.
Both live feeds and recorded footage can be monitored from his phone. The lights inside and outside the camp can be controlled. Our customer can even accomplish access control from his iPhone, unlocking the doors to allow guests into the premises without leaving the field.
Our customer has very small children, and his camp is near a large body of water. He was interested in being able to lock the doors while the kids were inside the camp to avoid a hazardous situation—any parent knows that a curious child can get themselves into trouble when left alone for even a short period of time. When our customer locks the doors, they can’t be unlocked without his providing a security code or unlocking from his device.
As a necessary precaution, we linked the doors to the fire alarm system such that if a fire or other emergency were detected, the doors would unlock, enabling anyone inside to get to safety.
